So to set the scene, in Malta, most acting work is cast in 2 ways: either through the agent, or else agents/content creators/producers put up a post on a facebook group - called literally Film/TV work Malta (the owner of the group actually turned around good bit of money, as he monetized it and is doing quite well). Sometimes (like 2 times a year) some agent will post there that they need demo reels as they are looking for a voice over or sth. Other than that, content creators just go to agents and they get their VOs from UK agencies (but the results are quite messy, as most times these UK actors sound too inflected, fake, and completely miss the mark when it comes to pronunciation or brands) - of course this is through no fault of the actors, but rather the situation, as they wouldn't know anything about Maltese culture, and of course how to pronounce Maltese names and locations and brands. No exaggeration, I think a rant made it even to the local news, as people were feeling so annoyed with the VOs they heard everyday on the radio. Other than that, you get the same 2 or 3 Maltese voices, the same people that are the radio announcers do almost all the VOs.
Incidentally, I have no clue how to break in - I am not quite sure about making my own demo reel, if it will be good enough etc. and will be able to compete :S.
So I was thinking about starting another facebook group, literally for VO artists/aspiring in Malta. I could link it to some helpful tutorials or sth, and also encourage anyone who is already a VO, or interested, to join, but somehow, I would need to also convince content creators/radio stations to start sourcing/auditioning their VO needs from this group. Does this sound crazy? Or does it sound plausible? Any advice?
