We're only a month away from the new year, so I'm curious as to what everyone's goals are in terms of their voice acting work. This could be things you want to improve on, milestones you want to make in your career, etc.
Tip: Try to be realistic! We all want to dream big, but those are best left to the "goals in the next 5 years" plans. Think about things you hope to accomplish, and even if you don't end up actually accomplishing them, you can make concrete steps to do so.

I'll just try and keep it simple.
1) Practice, practice, practice. I know I want to improve on what I can do right now and also try to expand on things that are currently outside of my range. For instance, I want to continue practicing raising my voice, but I also want to develop a more natural elderly male voice that I don't think I'm close to yet.
2) Listen and learn. Start paying attention to tv shows, games, and even commercials more closely to get the feel of how other actors perform. It's one thing to just watch or listen, but I want to study their methods and see what I can work into my own practice.
3) The big goal in my head is to get into my first paid project, but that will only possibly come if I keep pushing myself on the other goals above. In the meantime...
4) Just audition for projects on both auditions sections of the board more in general.
That's a good enough list for me.

More than anything else, I want to get started on getting some paid voice acting work next year, as part of the reason why I haven't done that yet is because I've been too preoccupied with school. I also want to make a point to take formal acting classes at some point, since I think that's going to play a key role making sure I'm ready for more higher-level work.

Goal #1: No more injuries!
Goal #2: To copy from Bean, practice, practice, practice.
Goal #3: To also copy from Bean, I'm planning to listen to more audio books (and practice doing what they do!) so I can get a better handle on what works and what doesn't.
Goal #4: Get set up on ACX.
Goal #5: Have my recording space set up well enough to take on at least one short book.

1. Improve in voices that I am not strong in (high energy, sultry/sexy voices) 2. Take more VO classes and workshops 3. Book a 2nd commercial role

Acting goal: I'd like to add 2 or 3 new character types to my arsenal, to the point where I can get them professionally competitive.
Business goal: Get more comfortable with the business side of being an artist. (Invoicing, networking, branding, etc.)
Personal goal: Actively practice trying new things without fear, instead of letting my perfectionist tendencies slow down my momentum.
This is such a great idea! I'll be rooting for everyone in the next year. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help encourage you all! :-)

2018 will more or less be my second year as a Voice Actor and YouTuber running a Voice Acting Channel. I've accomplished a lot in my first year, so I'm hoping to get even more done in my second:
Goal 1: Getting back in shape so that I can improve my lung capacity (for those long lines) and be ready to finally get a head shot. Goal 2: Collaborating with, getting to know, and becoming good friends with at least ten of my fellow voice actors. Goal 3: Double the amount of videogame/animation roles on my Resume so that I have at least twenty in total. Goal 4: Double the amount of subscribers I have so that I can have amassed at least 250,000. Goal 5: Successfully apply to and sign up with an agent or agency. Goal 6: Land a massive career defining role.
I'm aiming a pretty high with all these goals so it wouldn't surprise me if I don't hit any of them, but I'd like to still like to try to at least land close to a few of them.

Hey, you're aiming high, but you've already achieved a lot in your first year. Go for it! On the head shot thing: If you're in school, ask around in the Drama department, Communications, Art, etc. to see if you can hook up with any art students who may be building their portfolio, or with other groups of people who are also getting head shots and may have a good deal worked out with the photographer. When a fashion or portrait photographer is first starting out, they'll often work in exchange for using your head shot in their portfolio. Local camera clubs may also be able to work with you. The club here works with the local modeling agencies for collaborative shoots that result in everyone having a bunch of new stuff in their portfolio. It's a good deal for everyone.

1. Settle into a Dallas-area home. 2. Regularly attend improv jams. 3. Complete all improv levels at Dallas Comedy House 4. Form and cultivate an RPG group I'll GM for (all those sweet sweet NPC voices). 5. Get commercial VO training! At least two 1-hour sessions a month, maybe alternating mentors 6. Audition for FUNimation! 7. Fly out to Los Angeles to take a Crispin Freeman class in person! (ADVENTURE!) 8. Make a commercial reel by the end of the year! 9. Launch a website! 10. Order business cards! 11. More singing lessons! 12. Record a cover EP with one Kamen Rider theme on it!

My 2018 goals
1. To solidify my voice acting 2. Regularly record my lines for the roles that I got. 3. Settle to a new college (Ohlone or De Anza) 4. To formulate a special for a holiday to voice all of my characters. 5. Get commercial VO training! For the same reason 6. Record a cover album with one Dynasty Warriors song on it. 7. Audition for FUNimation! so then, I can be the second VA born in San Jose to be at Funimation next to Ricco Fajardo. 8. Land a great role to shape my second full year in Voice Acting.

So there's this Visual Novel I started voicing for last year when I was an absolute noob. It's massive, and I'm still voicing for it now. I feel like I can't join any other projects because I've got so much work on my plate. My goal is to get this project done and dusted as soon as I can.
Then I'll be auditioning left, right and centre, and haunting this place.

My goals would be to get more paying roles to be able to afford luxuries like soap and toothpaste(I joke) and I would be super thrilled to voice an anime or game character, all the best to everyone for the next year, may all your dreams come true!

1) Expand my vocal range and versatility with character types. I'd think it'd be awesome to play the villain or the comedic relief every now and then. I'm currently doing this by imitating voices I hear (anime is particularly great for that).
2) Hunt out for a space where I can leave my recording space set up almost permanently. It takes a good hour to put together and take it down. It gets physically tiring after a while.
3) Audition much more frequently, at least one or two a day, instead letting it all pile up on the one day off of work I get.
4) Land one or two paid projects that will eventually lead to completion.
5) I have lots of other goals, but that's in a different thread. XD

Yay! I love seeing all your goals I might as well post a few of my own as well! ☆ Try to break into commercials and/or radio imaging, even on a very small scale. ☆ Get more active with taking workshops. I'm always making excuses about not having the money, but you have to spend money to make money and I know they will be helpful. ☆ Drive more traffic/auditions to this website. ☆ Attend conventions as a guest, if possible. ☆ Learn to put my foot down with clients who insist on paying me insulting rates, and get to the point where I'm financially stable enough to be willing to lose the job if I walk away. ☆ Book more union work. ☆ Be less afraid of networking. ☆ Work on being able to deliver more natural/cinematic style reads when the script calls for it. I don't get to read in this style much since the majority of my work is anime and JRPGs, haha. ☆ Update my website at some point. ☆ Learn at least two new accents well enough to sustain them for a role. Be able to perform differences in varying British dialects.

A new goal that I realized I really want to accomplish next year is creating my first demo reel, since I specialize in character work it would most likely be a character demo, and I'm working on auditioning for more fan projects after school's over so that hopefully I can get enough material to work with. I feel it would be a good way to move closer to the "professional" side of things, and a lot of sites that I could conceivably do more on ask for a demo reel.
