Hey everyone! As the title says, I’m teaching a free VO class in LA on the 25th. It is totally free, at a Burbank recording studio, and open to anyone who is serious in taking the next steps in their voice acting journey. If you would like to know a little bit more about my methods and about me, here's my website and the LTM Voiceover Classes website and FB page for you to take a peek at. Or if you're ready to dive on in, here is the Eventbrite link for the class with all the info and ticket information.
A bit more about me: I’m an on-camera and voice actor (and occasional director/casting director/producer/etc.), and I’ve been nominated one of the top VO coaches in the Backstage Reader’s Choice Awards a few times for the classes I teach. I never guarantee results--you're the only one who can do that as you get out of this what you put into it--but I am proud to say that EVERY time I've run my Voiceover Sampler Class so far, at LEAST one of my students (and usually more in LA, closer to half of each class!) has landed their first VO gig, offer, and/or agent BEFORE the end of the eight-week course--and most were totally new to VO. It’s a combination of knowing what people need to know to get started and putting it all into one solid class, and making sure the people I teach are ready to benefit from it (I speak with everyone before they enroll to make sure it’s the right fit).
What I'll be covering: I’ll be answering questions/discussing topics I get a lot about VO (from both beginners *and* those more experienced), including demos (probably the #1 thing people think they need to start that they absolutely should NOT be worrying about right away), agents (this would be #2), auditions, training, networking (and how it can be fun and empowering and not scary??), what working in animation and video game VO *actually* entails, mental, physical, AND vocal health (something I take VERY seriously, as I’ve had surgery on my vocal cords twice and I intend to never do so again), and booking that first gig (and/or the next one).
Why I do this: While I teach these free classes primarily to promote my eight-week Voiceover Sampler Class (a risk-free way for people to see what I’m all about), I open them up to as many people as possible and do my best make them beneficial to everyone who attends. (The fact is, I started teaching in the first place simply to get good info and resources out to as many people as possible after taking a bad VO class myself! and I still aim to do that.) I’m also honest, however, about who I am and what I can offer; I still have plenty to learn myself, but I am very good at getting people started—and it’s often that first step that’s the most difficult. But it doesn’t have to be.
The truth is, there's a LOT you can do to create opportunities for yourself that don't involve relying on waiting around for auditions to come in on overly competitive websites. ESPECIALLY if you live in LA, there's opportunity all around you! None of the VO work I've done (including before moving to LA) has come from a "pay-to-play" site. Actually, most of it hasn't even come from my agent; even with a VO agent, I booked 80% of my own VO gigs my first year out here (20% from my agent) using exactly the methods I teach, and that I'm happy to share with you.
Intrigued? Come join us on the 25th! Best case you learn some good information and come away with some great resources, worst case you don't like what I have to say...but in that case you never have to see me again. XD I’ll be answering as many questions as I can, so if you think of questions/something in advance you want me to cover, feel free to email it to me at ltmvoiceoverclasses at gmail (no PMs, please). Spread the word, bring a friend (make sure they register too), learn some stuff! Hope to see you there.
