Recently, I've been feeling really bad about my voice over, often saying things like, "I don't understand my characters well enough," or "I don't try hard enough," etc. It's making it really hard to feel good about my roles, even the roles I used to be proud of, and I generally feel like I'm not a good enough voice actor. What should I do to feel less bad about my performances and overall skill?

Take a break for a little while. Take some time to relax, go outside, do something else you enjoy. If you feel like you're just going through the motions, you aren't at your best. Having a non-VO related hobby can help get your mind off of things, and you might even catch yourself doing different voices, or thinking about VO without even realizing it, and then getting excited about it again and can't wait to jump back in the booth! At least, that's what I do.

Everyone needs a break sometime! Think about it, if you've got a "professional" full-time job, you get vacation/sick time, right? It's important to take care of yourself. Being stressed/drained/burned out is not a badge or some achievement, especially for an actor.
Besides, we aren't JUST voice actors, right? There's so many other facets of our lives. And who knows, maybe while you're taking a break, you watch a show that reveals a character type you'd like to play, or you people-watch and notice an interesting vocal pattern someone uses that you'd like to play with.
Feel better soon!
