So, I do a character for a project, and the responses to the voice of the character have been very mixed. Fans of the character and the client say that they love the voice and it fits the character like a glove, but other people are saying it's not pleasant to hear, hurts their ears, doesn't sound convincing, etc.. I'm honestly kind of at a loss of what to do. I want the best for this character, so I'm struggling atm. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

As long as it's good for the client, and you yourself are fine with it, I'm not seeing the problem. Not everyone's going to like everything you do 100% anyway. I had to do a stereotypical country accent for one client and had the same mixed feelings, but it turned out all right to me and the people I was working for, and I did have fun recording overall. That's all that really matters.
You could always post audio for feedback on here since it's been published to get a fresh set of ears to listen to it, too. It sounds like you're having fun with it outside of the ones critiquing it.
