Greetings fellow voice actors and content creators,
I'm a German-Scottish VA, content creator and Level Designer for Games. Apart from that the usual unemployed artist you can find in any big city. Except that Germany has a social system that goes like "No Job? No Problem!" when it comes down to basic needs like an apartment, internet and stuff. So, since getting a job seems to be nigh impossible in the past 2 years, I'm here now, trying to hone my skills with my mic as much as possible.
I do have a home studio and because of my baritone and sometimes even bassy voice, I got myself a Sontronics mic a couple of years back. Still in mint condition that thing as are my recordings. I've been doing some voice practicing to get my voice back down to a bass again, as when I started out, my voice was actually a bass. But then I started to discover the upper spectrums of my voice aswell and used those mainly so I am more of a baritone now. That didn't meant that I was slacking tho, as my singing improved.
There's always more room for improvement but I can whip out a shanty or two and it won't sound bad so that's already a neat thing.
When it comes down to my verbal skills, as you can imagine, German and English are both languages I know. Further than that, I can do a couple of dialects in English. Unsurprisingly, that would start off with Scottish. Then there's something Americans would call "Generic British" and brits would call "Generic American" which I can pull off. However, the Indian Dialect is also in my repertoire as soon™ there will be more becase I'm a polyglot.
A what now? A Polyglot.
A Bilingual speaks 2 languages, a Trilingual 3 and I'm speaking so many I lost track. Not precisely but the main ones I speak at the moment are, next to German and English, Japanese, Norwegian and Italian.
Aside from that I can read Russian, speaking it is a matter of practice, similarly with Finnish.
How come I speak that many languages? I...got bored on Duolingo Yup, no inspirational stories here, just a big dose of random boredom.
I guess that's as much as I can tell from my VA background, the issue is that I never got Paid jobs because, as I'm also a content creator, I was basically combining the two skills for a while which burnt me out real quick. I wrote my own audiobooks, stories and whatnot. Voiced them and bam. Good Stuff but it was so taxing. This made me realize that you HAVE to work in a team. Because it doesn't matter how much you can or cannot do, you only got so much energy to put into your work and if you go full-out all the time because you're passionate about what you're doing, you'll eventually burn out and can't do that thing which you love so much.
Trust me, I may be a young voice actor but I've been there, it's not nice at all. So this is why we need platforms like these to gather together and get contracts going. Paid or unpaid.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk lol
