Project Title: Waking Meadows
Project Rating: T for brief strong language
This is NOT a paid role. This project and all projects on the same website Audio Fanfiction Library (www.audiofanfictionlibrary.net) are purely for fun.
This audition is for 2 FEMALE, 1 MALE, and 1 NARRATOR role in an Audio Fanfiction project.
This project is based on the animated movie Strange Magic.
Movie description for those not familiar: Strange Magic is a fractured fairy tale based on both A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Beauty and the Beast. The story revolves around two kingdoms: the Fairy Kingdom, the home of fairies and elves, and the Dark Forest, home of goblins. When a love potion is unleashed on both kingdoms, Marianne, the tough and bitter fairy princess who has sworn off love after she caught her fiancé cheating on her on their wedding day, must team up with the Bog King, the goblin ruler of the Dark Forest who has banned love from his kingdom.
The Roles:
1. Princess Dawn
Princess Dawn is the younger fairy princess, sister of Marianne.
Character’s Age: 19-years-old
Character’s Voice Type: High, girly, melodic
Character’s Accent: Standard American accent
Character’s Personality: Dawn tends to be flighty and very feminine, but she has an indomitable streak, and she can be very sensible especially when dealing with her moody big sister. She’s an absolute romantic at heart and believes in true love.
Audition Line 1: (mildly exasperated) “So he’s been talking to some goblin girl. What’s the big deal? Is talking a crime all of the sudden?”
Audition Line 2: “What else could it be? Maybe they’re planning something special! Like a ball in their kingdom for us to attend. Maybe it’s somebody’s birthday or there’s a festival coming up.”
2. Lyra
Lyra is a goblin woman from the Dark Forest and the Bog King’s head cartographer.
Character’s Age: Middle aged
Character’s Voice Type: Lower-pitched, a little gruff
Character’s Accent: Director open to different accent types for this character
Character’s Personality: Friendly, professional, good-natured
Audition Line: “The king is waiting for you! Have a wonderful afternoon!”
3. Roland
Roland is the handsome, dashing, and narcissistic fairy knight who cheated on Princess Marianne. He appears in flashbacks in Marianne’s memory in this story.
Character’s Age: 24-years-old
Character’s Voice Type: Strong, masculine, medium-low pitched
Character’s Accent: Southern American drawl
Character’s Personality: Roland is vain, manipulative, chauvinistic, and power-hungry, but he hides it under the polished veneer of chivalrous nobility.
Audition Line: (condescending) “Who’s the big girl? You’ve got a sword.”
4. Narrator
This is the third person prose narrator of the story.
Character’s Age: Will consider any age, but viewpoint character is a 25-year-old female
Character’s Voice Type: Preference for a female narrator, as Marianne is the viewpoint character, but will consider any auditions
Character’s Accent: Will consider any accents
Character’s Personality: The story is fairly light-hearted and romantic, with a touch of angst.
Audition Line: “It was a meadow. The most stunning meadow she had ever seen. Lush, jade green grass, dotted with a rainbow of wildflowers, carpeted the ground. The lofty cedars and tightly crowded briar bushes and rocks served as a nearly impenetrable wall of privacy, allowing only a crystal clear stream to wind straight through. In the center, was a sparkling pond with lily pads and lotus blossoms floating on the surface. Golden sun rays poured in through the eastern side of the tree line. Combined with the fresh aroma of pure, wooded nature, it gave the entire area an ethereal aura. Marianne felt tears spring into her eyes from all the natural beauty around her as she and Bog stood on a sturdy bough. She was far too awestruck to inspect it further; at the moment, she could do nothing but gaze upon all the wonder before her. Not even in the Fairy Kingdom was there a place this gorgeous!”
AUDITION PROCESS:
1. Mic Quality Requirements: Your words must be able to be heard and understood clearly. Other factors not a consideration (minor popping, clicking, static, etc. -- ALL FINE). Just do the best with what you have.
2. Acting Ability: ANY -- amateur through professional. Audio Fanfiction Library is a site just for fun and it is all-inclusive to members.
3. Age Requirement: None. We do not post any material rated over PG-13/T. (We are trusting you to have parental permission for your online activities if you are underage.)
4. Commitment: This is a medium-length single chapter story, about 7000 words total. Dawn, Lyra, and Roland are all fairly minor characters with about 3-10 lines. The Narrator has a significantly larger amount of lines to read. For each chapter, Dawn, Lyra, and Roland’s VAs would have 1 month to record the lines beginning when you are cast, notified, and given your script; the Narrator would have 2 months. Once that is done, if anything needs to be reread, you would be given extra time to do that.
5. Format: MP3, MP4, or WAV please
6. Deadline: Sunday, April 17
7. E-Mail: Please send audition lines to inspiredbyredwall@yahoo.com.
