Hi there!!  I'm new here in this forum and would like to share a thought or two about my project - and I'd be glad to receive a few tips from others who are into making fandubs. See, I've decided to make a fandub, but not just any ordiary fandub - but actually dubbing a whole movie. By myself. The movie, in question, is Disney's Hercules (one of my favourites from Disney). I'm dubbing it in my native language (Bulgarian) - obviously it hasn't been dubbed in it (hmm, weird). I know it sounds insane - one guy dubbing so many characters?! But actually I've been gaining skills in voice acting (at home, of course) and can imitate different voices (even female ones). I also use the help of some pieces of software. If anyone is interested to share some tips of what voice changing software to use (I'm currently working with several vst plugins - among which Ircam Trax, Antares Throat etc.) and is a fan of Hercules and is curious to hear some lines which I have dubbed... well feel free to comment!  |

That IS an impressive undertaking. Best of luck! Also, I pride myself on a lot of different character voices, too, so I'm ALWAYS interested to hear other people's as well. It's so much fun when you hit upon something you've never quite heard before.
As to advice: Vocal exercises, my friend! They will expand your range. And I'm sure you're aware to never do anything that doesn't feel 100% comfortable. Straining your throat over and over isn't the same as exercising it, and waiting for it to heal takes longer than training it properly in the first place.

That's a very remarkable thing you're planning on doing! I'm very interested in many different languages and Bulgarian sounds very beautiful to me even though I can't understand a thing. I also do fandubs and even tried to learn some Japanese dialogue for my voice overs, which failed horribly of course, 'cause my accent just sucks It's so cool to hear people dub in different languages, I wish I was able to do that too. I'd really love to hear some of your lines! Especially since Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies too and Hades is actually my favorite Disney character of all time. I can't imagine him with another voice besides James Woods, which is why I'm really curious to hear him in another language! You don't happen to stream your dubs live, do you? It'd be so cool to hear you live! |

All asian languages sound so alien to me, although I have plenty of fun trying to come up with some words, I've remembered Another Hercules fan, just like me! I absolutely agree with you, I simply cannot imagine Hades' smoothe fast-talking lines with a voice other than that of James Woods, it just fits too well. Sadly I don't stream my dubs, the process is requires a good deal of concentration and I do it best when there's no one else at home (a rare event indeed). I don't feel too comfortable when there's someone in the other room. But I'm simply thrilled that you want to hear some lines I've recorded if you want you can send me your e-mail as a message. As his/her voice, you aren't "reading for" the character, you ARE the character. ; )

It does have some similarities to Russian, right? I could be wrong, though it's just that it sounds so very similar to my ears The writing system is also so fascinating, it's so different to what I'm used to. Yeah, I have a very thick accent and it comes out way too much when trying to speak Japanese... I don't know the language at all so it's just me trying to imitate it, which sounds just wrong But it's cool that you can come up with some words Hercules is way too underrated if you ask me! The humor is just fantastic and we can agree that Hades is the best Disney villain of all time! So glad that James Woods improvised his lines, I really can't imagine Hades actually being a serious and intimidating character as he was originally supposed to be. That would've sucked big time! Too bad you don't stream your dubs. I've watched a girl doing a livestream of her dubbing on picarto.tv and it was pretty fun watching her and giving her feedback! But I can definitely understand if the dubbing requires high concentration. It's not that easy after all... But yeah I'd love to hear you record some lines! I'll send you a private message |

XD Cheers! -Duffy I was soo surprised to see an answer in my language  It's very kind of you, thanks Ahh, good ol' Google Translate, what would we do without it. Yep, the result could be quite comical. "Също така аз съм измама" - I assume you mean, that you're a bit cheating, by using it and the translation says: "I am a fraud."  Don't worry, Duffy, it's completely normal to make mistakes in a language you're not good at. I personally have used Google Translate for many such purposes. Heck, I've studied English since kindergarten and even today learn new things. I promise you're the first person I'll send clips to, when the dub is finished. Cheers! ^^ |

Thanks! And yes, heheh, "I am cheating/I am a fraud" in that I don't actually speak the language at all, without some form of assistance. I don't know any grammar or vocabulary. Although I make it a point to always learn to say "hello!" and "Thank you!" properly to whomever I'm talking. (Although, that sometimes is funny as well. Once I was told - with great mirth and amusement - I pronounce "hyvää iltapäivää" very good, but unfortunately that it is outdated, and makes me sound like an old radio newscaster.
