Hey guys, I put together this character reel. I have a handful of other voices, but right now i'm trying to explore my more neutral vocal range. In the clip, i'm focusing on voices that are more narrow in relation to that more limited range. Any feedback would be very much appreciated, whether that be mic issues, lack of "oomph", unbelievable acting, a voice you think doesn't "sell" enough of a character, a general unexplained hatred for a line or me, or anything else you can think of. Thanks a lot! Demo Reel

I don't feel like I've heard you come close to your full voice yet. Each character had a distinct personality about them, which is good, I like the British accent a lot! However, I felt like you were somewhat restrained with your energy, almost like you were trying not to be too loud. If you're talking to another character who isn't right in front of your face or you're dealing with an instense, emotional situation, you're going to need more energy and projection to suppport your voice and truly bring a scene to life.

Thank you both for listening and the feedback, it's really appreciated. Deven , I'd say the energy level partially stems from working from an apartment and partially just some hurdles I need to work on. I've done bouts of improv and stage work years ago, but need to rekindle that. Do you happen to do any exercises/drills for projection and diaphragm recruitment, especially when it comes to more emotional scenes or those needing yelling? Many thanks

Nate Protagonist, every apartment building is different, but do you run your television that quietly at all times, too? Do you always converse with people in hushed tones when at home, or on a phone call in your apartment?
What about things like a dishwasher or laundry machine, if you have either/both in your unit? I'd be willing to bet both would be louder than any voice on that reel.
Because it really sounds very subdued indeed to me -- bordering on stage whispers for most of it. =) And if your apartment complex really IS that strict on sound levels... maybe it would be worth looking around for some other options in your area/rent price range, especially if you want to do a lot of voice acting?

Rebekah Amber Clark I just listened to my reel again on a bassier jbl speaker and it came across immensely subdued. Self-reflection time, am I a Seinfield-esque "low-talker"? haha Gonna find time to work on these voices this week hopefully. Thanks a lot for the feedback!
