Anyone who came here from the old board is probably wondering what all this talk is about "a new vision for the community", etc. Let's face it: The old boards hadn't been maintained in years, because all of us (admins/founding members) had moved on to focus on our own careers, and were no longer particularly involved with the amateur voice acting world. Several new online casting sites popped up as well, and there was no real motivation to attempt to revive the board. But recently, it became painfully obvious that there was a niche that needed filling, and so a bunch of the former staff from the old board got together and discussed what would essentially become a brand-new VAC. So here are some of the updates you can expect...
- An active board again, staffed by people who have a lot of experience and/or knowledge in the online voiceover community.
- An effort to bridge the gap between aspiring voice actors, professional voice actors, and everyone in between. Rather than being strictly an "amateur voice acting forum", the new VAC will also be inclusive of those who are already professionals, particularly with the addition of our "paid content" section. Now that many online projects such as indie games and YouTube shows are offering payment to attract talented actors, we hope to further encourage this by having specific forum sections available for paid projects. Trade-for-experience projects will still of course be available.
- A focus on original content. Fandubs will not be allowed (see the rules and FAQ post for more info). While certain fan-content will still be allowed, we especially aim to encourage casting calls from animators and game developers.
- Less off-topic "social" areas. Many years ago when the old VAC was active, it was before social media was such a big thing. People went to forums to chat and hang out...but now they mainly do so on Facebook and Twitter. Just as an example...the old board had an entire subforum for people to post their selfies. Now, people just go to Facebook or Instagram for that (or it can easily be accomplished with a single megathread in the off-topic forum.) As for now, we have one all-encompassing subforum for any discussion not related to voice acting, because it's okay to have a little fun sometimes, but we don't want the board to become overtaken by things that people already do on social media.
- We are hoping to have more (and updated) tutorials and guides for people trying to get into online voice acting or needing tips on voice acting in general. There are already some members who have expressed interest in writing content for the site, and we are always accepting more. Feel free to post a guide you've written, and if we like it and find it informational, we'll sticky it!
- An overall more organized, updated, and streamlined experience.
As this is still a brand-new board, please give it time to get active again and grow our userbase. We look forward to having you on board!
