While self-promotion threads aren't allowed on this forum aside from posting demo reels or finished projects you're in, sometimes it can be fun to share your accomplishments with others. These can be anything from small victories like trying out a new accent for an audition to getting your first in-studio role or booking a project on your bucket list.

Aw, this is a nice idea! I'm getting a better handle on my Spanish accents, and I'm starting to be able to diversify between a general Latinx accent and a New Yorican (which is so much fun, haha!) I was never too good with accents so I'm glad I'm improving now. And I'm glad I can improve with accents that relate to my background, too  |

I don't really get to vent often to other VAs but, well, two weeks ago was the one year anniversary of me becoming an online voice actor and I do have to say I'm incredibly proud of how far I've come in such a short period of time. Ironically enough I'm glad I contracted Wegeners last year (a deadly autoimmune disease that has caused me a lot of grief and will continue to do so) since it lead to me stepping into all of this; something I can pursue a career in and maybe even one day have be my main source of income (right now I'm majoring in Computer Science and Engineering which is a lot more boring).
I recently did the math and it turns out in just my first year alone I've managed to snag over 150 roles seen by a combined total of over fifteen million people. I also started a voice acting YouTube Channel on the side to go hand in hand with my voice acting endeavors and even though I didn't think it would actually end up going anywhere, it ended up amassing over 80,000 subscribers and fifteen million views. I worked so hard to accomplish what I've accomplished in this first year and I'm guessing there's not a lot of online VAs out there who can say they've had more successful first years than this one; and I have no plan on slowing down.
In 2018 I hope to get cast in lots of awesome stuff (even more so than this past year) and that I can hit 200,000 subscribers before 2019. I also plan to make an effort to really expand the variety of projects I voice in and the variety of content I produce on my own Channel. And whilst I've gotten to know a ton of directors, I haven't really gotten to know very many VAs so that's definitely something I plan on making the time to do in 2018. Hopefully I can also use my Channel to help other VAs start and grow their own YouTube Channels as well. I'm definitely excited to see what's to come in 2018!

A while back I was talking to a fellow VA about how it would be a dream come true to voice in this one game, and I'm so grateful and happy to say as of last month I was cast in it!
Upon hearing the news, I was so shocked to the point where I was pinching myself to make sure it was real XD

So this is something I just need to get out cause it helps me to think about in not so great moments.
Back in January after saving a bit I signed up for Chris Rager's voice acting class in Plano, TX (it's a great class to take if you can). It was a really fun four weeks learning from Funi actors like Ian Sinclair, Monica Rials, Joel Mcdonald, and Chris Sabat. They all had such great advice to give and the booth experience was nice though it took some getting use to not moving around.
All the feedback I got when working within the booth was was positive, supportive and constructive from everyone, which was great because when it comes to being a VA I suffer from major impostors syndrome. It was so nice to hear what I was doing right and what just needed more work and polish from people who I've admired, listened to, and dreamed of working with.
Come the last Tuesday of class we're all dubbing two scenes of a show and meeting with Chris Sabat to go over the work we've done in class and where to go from there. When I was waiting in line to start dubbing a scene, Sabat was looking for someone to interview and the first person on his list was already in the booth working. So since I was right there, not doing anything at the moment, he asked if it was okay if he interviewed me first, and of course me being a "go-gitter" said yes despite my nerves.
(I'm a huge anime fan, a huge fan of Sabat's body of work, and I've been watching the dub of the DB series since my earliest memories, so I was containing a whole hell of a lot of excitement)
We sit down and he listens to the recordings I've done in class thus far and he likes them a lot. He gets really excited about them even. He puts me in a booth and we run through some test-lines. It's awesome being directed and given new ideas for my voice.
Fast-forward to the end of the night and me and a friend from class are talking over our respective interviews when she brings up that Sabat kept talking about how impressive he thought I was. Needless to say I was beyond happy.
So, whenever I begin to doubt my abilities or don't book a part, I keep that in mind so I can keep plugging away and getting better.

I was cast as Aaron Burr on a group in the Smule App. Which isn't, ya know, GREAT... But it's nice.

I just had a major ad agency in Bavaria contact me asking for my resume! They need some American English VOs for their clients. Unfortunately, thanks to German tax laws, I'd be working for peanuts, but it would still be a cool thing to have done. |

Since the first post here says this thread can include small victories, here's one. I actually recorded my voice tonight to try out for a couple of auditions on here at last after a lot of not so good takes last night. A month ago, I would've been afraid to press record in the first place. Now I feel like I should be doing this every chance I get. I don't know if I'll be good enough for either role, and I need to continue to put in a ton of work to improve anyway, but even getting to this point is a huge step forward for me. I usually get cold feet and freeze up completely before even trying stuff like this.
So it is pretty small, and I still have to edit these clips together once I get my energy back, but that's step one in trying to conquer my shyness and performance anxiety issues. I'll take it!

It's been awhile since I auditioned for anything, haha, but I actually sent an audition and feel really proud of the way it came out. It was also one of those few times I felt really confident in recording this audition, so whether or not I get the role, I am just happy that the auditioning process is starting to feel less awkward for me.
