I just think there needs to be a bit more clarification regarding this, since especially in the unpaid section people seem to be unsure. To me, "video game" refers to an interactive medium that one can provide voices for, rather than something made out of a game. Am I correct? Would machinima be better considered animation, rather than video games?

Yeah, you're definitely right. The subforum descriptions do mention "interactive" games, but I guess I can see why someone might get confused.

That would fit better under animation/visual, in my opinion as it's usually a more cinematic production.

Just as the others said, machinima fits under "visual projects". The games section is for projects that are games themselves, not other types of media based on games. For example, a radioplay based on a game would still go in the "audio projects" section.
EDIT: I've gone ahead and edited the board description in the unpaid projects section to include machinimas, so hopefully this will help clarify for people looking to post in the future.
