My name is Peter, and I'm from New York City.
I should warn everyone here that I haven't had many positive experiences in forums such as these to justify such a commitment, but I do have a strong desire to learn about the art of Voice Acting since family and friends have told me I have a very distinct voice that could lend itself to such a craft. I am hoping that this board will help aid in my journey.
The plan I have is to try recording audiobooks in children's literature within public domain. I have an idea of where I may obtain such materials. The process of recording and distribution as a means of a demo is where I seek assistance. Any suggestions are very welcome.

Hi, Peter! Welcome, and I hope you *do* have positive experiences during your stay here.
If you're looking to get into recording public domain audiobooks, I understand Librivox is a great place to start. It's a volunteer-based program with the aim of recording all the public domain books out there for the world to enjoy. I think one of their things is making these books more readily available to visually impaired people.

I just tried to register on the Librivox forums, but I am experiencing difficulty getting my activation key to my email. Has this happened to anyone who registered for that site?

Hmm, I have no idea. =/ Have you checked your spam filter? Sometimes things like that end up in the spam box of your e-mail. Otherwise, they have an e-mail address listed under "contact" -- I'd try reaching someone there. I'm afraid I don't actually have firsthand experience with the site, I've just heard about it frequently.
