Hello and thank you for choosing the VAC for your voice acting needs! In order to ensure fairness and organization for both content creators and voice talent, please read and follow these rules when posting auditions for your project.
The following information is required for all casting calls:
**Links to offsite pages (such as a Google Doc or webpage containing the audition info) are allowed; however, please include a brief summary of the project in your actual post as well as the deadline and your email address.
The following also applies to the types of content that may be posted:
General things to keep in mind:
If you have any questions, please feel free to post a topic in the “Forum Help” section or PM a moderator.
The following information is required for all casting calls:
- Audition lines. Select a few lines from the script for each character that you are casting. Voice actors auditioning will read these lines and send them to you so you can get an idea of how they would perform the character. For non-character work such as narration projects, choose a small excerpt from the script instead. Although we strongly recommend that you choose sample lines for people to send as an audition, occasionally projects may come up where you request actors to send you their general demos instead. This is allowed as long as it is clearly stated in the thread.
- Your e-mail address. Voice actors need a way to privately and reliably send you their audition files. You may include a Discord or Skype username in addition, but not as your only method of contact. Alternatively, if you have a shared project folder set up on Dropbox or Google Drive, it is permitted to request that actors upload their auditions there.
- A deadline for when you will stop accepting auditions. Voice actors need to know how long they have to submit something if they are interested. Please note that we do not permit first-come first-serve casting on this forum. Short deadlines are okay, but “ASAP” is not a valid deadline, nor is “I’ll cast when I find the right voice.” You must list the specific date when auditions will close (which may be extended later if you do not get enough submissions) and wait to make your final casting decision until that date. For more information, please see our FAQ topic on deadlines.
**Links to offsite pages (such as a Google Doc or webpage containing the audition info) are allowed; however, please include a brief summary of the project in your actual post as well as the deadline and your email address.
The following also applies to the types of content that may be posted:
- Auditions for fandubs are not allowed; however, certain fan-derived content (such as comic dubs, parodies, and fan animations) are. Please see this topic for more information on what constitutes a fandub.
- Auditions for adult projects (defined as projects featuring explicit sexual content) must be tagged with “adult”, “NSFW” or “18+” in the thread title. Images must be censored to a PG-13 level (no exposed genitalia) and external links to explicit reference videos/samples must be marked with content warnings. Content glorifying pedophilia or non-consensual sex is not permitted. Minors (defined as anyone under 18) are prohibited from auditioning for such projects.
- For paid projects, please indicate what kind of compensation is offered. While it is permitted to ask voice actors to submit their own rates, we recommend posting a specific offer up front in order to indicate your budget and be fair to all voice talent. (Please note that compensation must be monetary in order to be listed as a paid project - “credit/copy”, “trade”, or “possibility of future payment” do not count as such.)
General things to keep in mind:
- Please come back to your thread to check it after posting, in case potential auditioners have questions or a moderator needs you to edit something in your post. Failure to edit your post to comply with moderator requests within 48 hours may result in your thread being locked and/or archived.
- If you are not getting enough auditions, you are permitted to “bump” your post a maximum of once every 3 days (72 hours). Exception: If your deadline is shorter than 3 days, you will be permitted to bump once per day instead. (Having trouble getting auditions? Try our tips here.)
- We recommend choosing a descriptive thread title that reflects the project. Don't just say "Need voice actors" - that doesn't tell anything or entice people to open the thread. Good examples of thread titles include things like “Visual novel - 1M, 2F”, “Need British accents for audio drama series”, “Casting deep male voice for animation”, etc.
- For organizational purposes, it would be very much appreciated if you amend your thread title to include [CLOSED] or [CAST] once the deadline has passed.
If you have any questions, please feel free to post a topic in the “Forum Help” section or PM a moderator.
