Hello all,
As you may have been made aware, we've had a major influx of persistent spambots over the past week or so. This problem isn't unique to just the VAC---a quick look at the Proboards Support Forums reveals that many users are having this issue on their boards. Despite captcha and email verification being required for new signups, these savvy bots are somehow finding a way around it and inundating our forums with a ton of spam that then has to be manually cleaned up by the mod team.
It appears that Proboards is looking into this issue and will hopefully be resolving it soon, but in the meantime we've had to resort to a somewhat drastic measure of requiring approval for all new signups. There is no "application" or anything required on your part---as the spam is mostly coming from a few very specific domains, it's quite easy to tell from the username or e-mail address on any new account whether it's a human or not. So in the meantime, just sign up like you normally would and new accounts will be approved by an admin or moderator within 24 hours.
We realize this is in an incredible inconvenience, but it seems to be the only way to deter the spambots for now until the powers that be at Proboards figure out a solution. We will be keeping an eye on the new registrations and when bots stop registering in droves, the approval restriction can be lifted. Again, this doesn't mean new members can't sign up for the boards, it just means there will be an extra step on our end in place for the time being.
If for some reason you have been denied approval (again, highly unlikely unless your email address is registered in Russia), send me an e-mail at KirasVoices@gmail.com and I will look into your situation personally.
Thank you for your patience.
