Good evening all, I'm Captpan.
I'm here hoping to get a firm footing on not just VAing, but the industry as well. I want to get to know a lot of the community and learn and grow my passion into a living.
I already have a radio and acting background. I actually have done radio training at an iHeartMedia station as well as made radio promos for an internship (which you can find here (https://soundcloud.com/the-matt-lyng/promo-yes-unlimited), and yes I'm aware the mic quality isn't wholly perfect). I also have a BA in Theatre and have a passion for acting in general, not just vocally. My time on YouTube has also given me solid knowledge of Audacity and Vegas Pro. I even have showmanship behind a mic for my three nights a week I host trivia.
Some things I don't have are equipment. I once had a Blue Nessie, which I loved and used for some side projects but I'm well aware that to be taken seriously I'll need far more than that. My computer is shot, as in it literally has a hole in it, so I can't do anything until I have the right one to go with the ideal mic. But the more pressing thing I don't have, and this is where I would like your knowledge, is formal training.
My BA earned me solid know-how in stage, but nothing as far as voice acting is concerned. I don't have a demo reel. I don't know what my vocal profile is. I don't know where to start with all of this. One thing I am incredibly tempted by is NYC workshops that give me what I think I don't have...as long as I'm willing to pay.
And I am. The way I see it, I need to know where I belong and what I'm best off pursuing (audiobooks, roles, etc). I can get a demo reel done with them, one that's professional and usable when pitching myself. What's holding me back is this question: Am I contributing to a money hole? I would like to hear your experiences in the industry as well as which company do I choose.
Anyways, forgive me for having a verbose introduction and I look forward to meeting you all!
