Hi,
I'm CB. I saw an invitation to join on Twitter (I'm cbdroege), and so came over to give it a shot.
I'm an author and a voice actor. I've been working as a VO/VA for nearly 20 years (with some gaps), and my projects have run the full gamut. I started my career as a sports announcer, which led to commercials, which led to character work and long-form VO. Then I got my BA degree in Broadcast Performance. That led to more commercials, and some on-camera work for a local news station. In the mid-aughties however, I put my VA career on hold to pursue other interests, including writing fiction. Then, finally, a few years ago, someone 'from the old days' pulled me back in - like a reluctant, reformed burglar in an action film - and I've been doing a lot of audiobooks these days, as well as some commercials and character work.
I read your threads about wanting to improve the work you've been doing here, and I think it's a great and noble goal. I know how hard it is to manage an online community, and I hope it goes the right way. I agree with the decision to disallow fansubs. You mention in your thread that it turns off professionals, and I an tell you, from my own POV, that's true. There are a few sites out there looking to match-up VAs with projects, and when I see that the lists of projects are full of unpaid fan adaptations of things, that's a big red flag.
If anyone has any questions for me, feel free. Otherwise, I'll see you around the forum. Don't be surprised if I lurk for just a bit to learn the community etiquette before I start posting willy-nilly.
Cheers,
CB
