OVERVIEW
Casting a variety of characters for the second season of “Close Your Eyes,” a top fiction podcast on Apple & Spotify! You can check out the first season here.
We're looking for VAs who are able to deliver natural performances and interested in creating realistic characters. Ability to improvise and make creative suggestions is a plus! Payment: $75 per studio hour | Estimating approx. 1-3 hours per role
Submissions: For consideration, please submit your line readings in ABCABC format to oasistransmitting@gmail.com. Use subject line "CYE S2 | [your name]". Files can be MP3 or WAV format, but should be raw audio only (no processing or adjustments). Please note if your audition is not recorded with your usual equipment.
Deadline: May 11th, 2024 (11:59pm PT)
Thank you for your interest!
CHARACTER DESC & LINES:
Ship Captain (Cargo Ship)
- Desc: The skipper of a foreign cargo ship. A serious man, respected but feared by his crew.
- Accent: African
- Voice: Deep, authoritative, (gravelly is also ok)
- Age: 45+
Line 1: No passengers on my bridge!
Line 2: I told him he should learn a better trade. Work the harbor. Find a woman. Make a family. There was a future on dry land.
Line 3: You see that light there? Look close now. Right where I’m pointing. Yes, there. It’s very faint.
First Mate
- Desc: A lively and friendly member of the cargo ship crew
- Accent: African
- Voice: Friendly
- Age: 25+
Line 1: She isn’t a cruise ship, I’m afraid. No nightclubs, no water slides or pools. But she’s sound enough for sea.
Line 2: Storm? This? Ha! This is no storm. Just a little chop.
Line 3: Sorry, no. The skipper’s rules are firm. Let me take those off your hands though. (Big sniff) Mmmmhmmm!
Mr. Toby
- Desc: The butler on a luxury yacht. Humorless and pretentious.
- Accent: British
- Voice: Haughty, lordly
- Age: 35+
Line 1: Welcome aboard The Osiris! Mr. Coltraine extends his gratitude for your willingness to join him this evening.
Line 2: Through here please. (Clears throat) Ah, Mr. Coltraine? Your guests, sir.
Line 3: The captain has informed me there’s a storm approaching. Might I suggest we move your dinner inside?
Big Dave
- Desc: The “body man” (bodyguard) for a famous actress. Was ex-military now works private security.
- Accent: American (any region)
- Voice: Tough but not unrefined
- Age: 30+
Line 1: Not to upset you, but it would be wise to implement some tighter security measures. At least for the time being.
Line 2: Ms. White, if I may? Connie is right. It’s not smart. Some of your friends—they’re under investigation.
Line 3: Please wait there. Someone will be down to escort you up to the house.
MISC Male/Female Roles
If none of the above are a fit for your voice/talent, please consider sending us your reel for consideration of other minor roles.
