Hey gang, Dan here.
I've been working a lot on myself as an actor for a while now, but I think its time I break out and try to get to know other aspiring talent.
So a bit about me: Been on this site for a while, at least a few years before the board got updated. Never really posted much, auditioned for what I thought I might get a fit it. Got one or two jobs, but everything keeps getting scrapped before it see's the light of day. Oh well.
For the most part my background is improv, which I attend local workshops on a weekly basis. But I've also been fortunate to get personal coaching from professional voice actors like Crispin Freeman and Richard Horvitz. If you've never taken a class from them I HIGHLY recommend either one. Been doing that on a somewhat regular basis to build up my skill as an actor. Been mostly focused on character work, but I've dabbled a little in commercial as well.
Right now I'm focusing on building up my ability to get a nice, professionally made demo together. It's rather hard to self promote without one.
Also looking to upgrade my set up. I'm still using the first USB mic I ever bought, an Audio-Technica 2020, for a couple of years now. Its ok, but has no means to control its gain. Have my eye on the AKG C214 with maybe a Scarlett interface, though I hear the Scarletts tend to wear out after a year or so. Also looking to maybe buy some big bulky moving blankets or something to nail to the walls in my room here. Right now I just scavenged foam and bookcases.
I lean more to character that a bit more light pitched. An archetype I seem to be cast in a lot for workshops seems to be "Well meaning, but ultimately ineffectual" as it was put. Sorta Michael J. Fox type characters.
I also run a Youtube channel with my friend Adam called SkillTree. We don't have many subs or views and are working on new content to change things up. Like maybe some cooking videos or RPG sessions.
I'm going to try to be more proactive on this board and get to know more people instead of just lurking like always. Not just for the sake of networking, but to maybe make some friends and share in this same passion we have.
So yeah, see you around!
