Every actor has their own favorite phrases for warming up their voice. Share them here! Try out some of the other actor's favorites, and maybe find a new one to add to your routine... These are the three I use every day when warming up: . The big blue bug bit the big black bear and the big black bear bled blue blood. You love New York, you need New York, you know you love unique New York. Suzy sells seashells by the seashore in Sunshine City.

Mine are a mix of tongue twister phrases and warm up notes I borrowed from my old theater and choir days:
- Black Socks, they never get dirty the longer you wear them the stronger they get. Sometimes I think I should launder them but something keeps telling me don't wash them yet, not yet, not yet.
- Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked. If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
- Singing vowels up and down the scale and like an ambulance (Aaah, Eee, Iiii, Oooh, Ooou).
- Consonant pronunciation - PTKT & BDGD (say the latter one fast enough and it sounds like butter gutter, haha.)

I also use tongue twister phrases and a rather unusual technique, which is repeating the Japanese alphabet several times. I don't speak Japanese, but I heard that the Japanese voice actors do this for warming up, which I thought was interesting and tried it out myself.

Here's two I've done for years.
Betty bought a bit of butter. But she said "This butter's bitter. If I put it in my batter, it will make my batter bitter." So she bought some better butter and made the bitter batter better.
Moses supposed his toeses are roses. But Moses supposes erroneously. If Moses supposes his toeses aren't roses, then what are his toeses supposes to be?
Also fond of saying "Red leather, yellow leather, yellow leather, red leather." Over and over again in different voices.

Moses supposed his toeses are roses. But Moses supposes erroneously. If Moses supposes his toeses aren't roses, then what are his toeses supposes to be? Awesome! This brings back memories of reciting that entire scene from Singin' in the Rain with a friend of mine while standing in line at a Chinese fast food joint. We stopped short of tap-dancing, but still got our fair share of odd looks. I guess the take-away from this is that warm up phrases are best practiced while not in line at the Wok 'n Go?

I've started looking up Dr Seuss texts. Fox in Socks is one of my favourites. Starts off slowly, gets super intense by the end.

Nowadays, my daily warm-up is reading from a personal growth book for 15-minutes. I learn and warm-up at the same time!

A good one I learned in school was something called tongue counts. Basically, you keep your tongue outside your mouth as you count from 1 to 30 resetting as you hit the next number (1. 1 2. 1 2 3. 1 2 3 4 etc.) That and some singing warmups and I am ready to scream at a mic for hours on end!

I use the same warm up phrases from my acting class in college. It's a classic, but I still think it helps: "Rubber baby buggy bumpers." and saying "Unique New York" several times.

"Many mumbling mice are making merry music in the moonlight. Mighty nice." (I usually sing that one)
I also recite Peter Piper, except whenever I mention his name I add "the pickled pepper picker"

I've got another one to add. I've recently started singing along with the Japaneses lyrics to the songs Masayume Chasing by BoA and Closer by Joe Inoue as a part of my vocal warm up routine. It really helps me develop my articulation better and the songs are fun to sing along to as well. (The Japanese language is a beautiful one. ) ^_^ EDIT: I've added the Rōmaji lyrics to both songs in case anyone else wanted to try it out. ^_^ Masayume Chasing - BoA
Yume wo otte mayoikonda kokoro no mori no oku Kagami yori sunda izumi utsuru yuganda Smile
Koboreta namida wa (Don't Cry) kin demo gin demo nakute Arifureta namida (Fall From My Eyes) megami mo kizukanai
Masayume Chasing Chasing Koero motto jibun shijou saikou no Ima wo Chasing Chasing Sou egaita jibun ni natte moyase mune no hi wo
Na na na na na na na Oh Na na na na na Hey Hey Na na na na na na na Oh Kakenukero Hero
Na na na na na na na Oh Na na na na na Hey Hey Na na na na (Hey) na na na (Oh) Moyase mune no hi wo
Closer - Joe Inoue
Michika ni aru mono Tsune ni ki wo tsuketeinai to Amari ni chikasugite Miushinatte shimaisou
Anata ga saikin taiken shita Shiawase wa ittai nandesu ka? Megumaresugite ite Omoidasenai kamo!
Ima koko ni iru koto Iki wo shite iru koto Tada soredake no koto ga Kiseki dato kidzuku
Michika ni aru mono Tsune ni ki wo tsuketeinai to Amari ni chikasugite Miushinatte shimaisou
You know the closer you get to something The tougher it is to see it And I'll never take it for granted

"I sit in solemn silence in a dull, dark dock; in a pestilential prison with a life-long lock, awaiting the sensation of a short sharp shock from a cheap and chippy chopper on a big black block."
