I mean, we're all doing silly voices, screaming at the top of our lungs, saying strange things... it's no surprise we'd have a few embarrassing incidents over our careers. What are yours?
For me, it was when I was new to university and trying to find a good recording space. The music department should have some soundproof rooms, right? So there I am at 8pm, recording some lines for a game, where I get up to the part where my character is kidnapped in front of the hero. Naturally, my character calls for help. I'm recording, and a few minutes later I hear a knocking at the door. Outside are a few concerned music kids, worried for the person who's yelling "Help me!" in several different ways. Whoops. Room wasn't soundproof at all.

I'm embarrassed any time I hear a recording of something I did over ten years ago. Who was that guy, and why did he think he could be a performer? I'm sure in ten years, I'll feel the same about the stuff I'm doing now. I do the same thing as a writer. All that poetry I wrote in my 20s is such garbage to me now. Other people seem to not notice as much as I do.

Hahah aw mate, unlucky! At least they didn't kick the door in or call the police. The one embarrassing moment for me was when I'd first started attempting VA last year. I found an audition on old VAC for some sort of project which required an Australian accent. I thought to myself "Yeah I could give that a go, I'll have a decent chance." So I submit a terrible audition with an Australian accent and instantly get this feeling of regret. Too late now.
Then I check the project page and notice that these people are actually based in Melbourne. They're probably proper Australians who are sat their listening to my shitty attempt and laughing--Laughing at me! Oh my god what have I done.
So needless to say I didn't get that audition, and I keep looking back at that moment and doing this - imgur.com/gallery/vVkoPPU

Oh man that's awkward ahaha. I think my embarrassing moment was the same as cbdroege above - hearing old auditions and cringing! Although top to that would be doing wolf howls for a game and my boyfriend walking in - it was more funny than anything, but that stands out~!

Tried to do some singing once that required me to go into a falsetto voice. Had someone knock on the door and insist I was strangling a cat. It... wasn't the biggest confidence booster.

Mispronunciations that make the final product, or an incorrect phrase used. One was a machinima involving Skyrim, and the other was when I did my first character for Heroes of Newerth. Oh jeez, I found some head scratchers in the comments. It happens, I couldn't possibly blame myself (too much), but sometimes it's best to shrug it off, because I'll have more in the future.

... Years back, when I was first getting started, there was an audio play (which sadly never saw the light of day) which I auditioned for and by auditioned I mean I went full on Marlon Brando on it. I went in as if I already owned the role. I prepared for a week, spent three hours on it, giving the best takes I could give and I was an emotional wreck after it (and strange thing is I cannot remember a sentence of that dialogue, but it was about how destroyed this character felt because of another characters actions.)
Anyway, I sent it off. Two days later, the director came back and said "Okay, good news and bad news. Good news: That performance was spectacular! It was better than I envisioned and you really set a standard for this." Of course I was confused and then I asked. "So then what's the bad news?" His response: "You auditioned for a girl."
................................... Moral of the story: Always make sure you read the character bio thoroughly and properly.

August 2017. Cast in my first in-studio role for a professional title (I had only either worked on indie titles or recorded from home before).
I drank my water in the booth too fast and it went down the wrong pipe and oh no my eyes are watering and I'm having a coughing fit in the middle of a session and now I want to die being me is suffering

Just finished a live script reading with Brendan Hunter. At the start of the reading there were technical issues with my mic being stuck on mute and was almost replaced on the live stream.

So when I was still in college I was recording some lines when my roommate was gone, I was voicing the evil dragon Nicol Bolas from Magic: the Gathering, and I thought it went well, but it wasn't until a few hours later that I found out that someone down the hall heard me recording things like "I HAVE LOST MORE POWER THAT YOU COULD LEARN IN A DOZEN LIFETIMES" and it begs the question of what the people in my building thought was going on in my room most of the time.

Oh dear lord, that is my worst nightmare. I can't stand having to record when my mom and brother are home (or anyone can hear me, really). Mom says she's not listening, but my anxiety does not care. The irony is that I've done most of my recordings at night when they're both home due to my awful scheduling habits and that I also stream games fairly regularly in the evenings, so it's a very weird, specific anxiety.

Pretty minor one in the grand scheme of things, but this just happened last night so it's fresh in my mind:
I just got a new recorder/interface earlier this week. Work has been hell, so the first time I got to really sit down with it was last night... at 11:30pm. After everyone else had gone to bed. I loaded the drivers, plugged everything in, quietly recorded straight into my DAW for the first time ever (yay!) and then started working on monitoring. After plugging my headphones into my computer (no good), the interface (no good), I finally figured out the DAW wasn't outputting a monitoring signal. Aha! >click<
OHMIGAWD! At that point I had my headphones plugged into the interface, so when the DAW spit the full signal out my computer's sound card (the default output, of course) it went straight out the speakers. The feedback was staggering!
Everyone, even my cats, gave me a hard time for that one. I'm not allowed to play after bed time for a while.

I looked back at the first project I ever got cast in last summer only to find out that I got my very first line wrong! That whole performance was a thing since I still had zero idea of what I was doing, but that first line made me wince when I saw it didn't match up with the text onscreen. Oops!

To be fair, that one's also on the director for not catching it!
