Hi faolks. A few months ago, before RL took me away from you again, I was discussing problems with my demo reel and it's creation in another thread. I had wanted to attempt making a new one for you guys to rip apart in your foamy jowels, but I think perhaps I'd like to start with this one - because I have a nagging question that I can't find the answer to in regards to putting it together.
The VR in question is temporarily housed here: soundcloud.com/vikingkitteh/character-voice-reel
If you're willing to give me advice/help I thank you greatly in advance because I know it takes time to do something like that. And I also apologize in advance. I do try to be more active here but RL does things like makes me forget there are such things as forums, or I get so busy all I wanna do is have some fun. I'm terrible in my older age.
Now please let me present my case, because it's more efficient to pick up where one's knowledge rather leaves off. I may have gotten it all wrong, but I at least want to make it clear what I got wrong. LOL.
The issues I have been told about this thing so far: static, it's "too loud" (I had it up to 0 db because I thought that's what you were supposed to do? That's what my classes said to do.), and ... oh I forget what they're called now because it's late and my brain isn't wanting to work. Sound peaks. Before that the file had plosives in it, which I'd removed by adding in different clips using the original Audacity master file. (Which now I can't find of course.)
This is a mix of clips - some clips are from things I have done for other people and a couple are just characters I acted in as filler space. All original sound effects for "jobs" have been kept intact. It occurs to me now that an aka-seltzer fizz could be mistaken for static. It's not. It's fizz from a drink - so I should probably have chosen a better clip for that spot.
I tried to level out the sound peaks but I really can't do much without distorting the sound - and the majority of said sound peaks are *in the clips from my "gigs"*. How am I supposed to fix that?? What would you do?
The static I'm guessing, as I said before, should just be replaced. Well, the truth is I'm not married to this file except that I picked the best parts from my rare gigs and am not loving the idea of not using them. The Country Girl is my best character voice at this time, but I can re-record something for her.
This particular file I lowered the sound a bit to preserve ears. But because of conflicting information I'm really clueless and confused on where to set the sound limit away from 0db.
Plosives I'm working on improving at.
I actually intend to start over on this file as much as possible mind you. So don't be afraid to tell me, sans swearing, how bad I really am. :-) And thanks again.
