I've always been interested in voice acting, growing up. Hell, I used to record radio shows as kid, and sometimes I would mute a show I know by heart and try to dub it myself. My only problem was I had no idea how to get more involved. Once I started college I found out about online voice acting communities, and while very hesitant at first, I gave it a go.
Without going into too much detail, I had to put voice acting on the back-burner for the past few years for personal reasons. Now I'm going to back into the swing of things.

Two influences. The indirect one would be Ian Corlett. He was usually the lead in a lot of shows I used to watch as a kid in the 1990s like DBZ, Mega Man, and the last season of Reboot. I thought it would be cool to do that. Didn't get me to start, but I always liked practicing playing characters and doing voices back then.
The more direct part would be playing an indie platformer called Freedom Planet. Some friends got me into paying attention to the game when it was a few months away from release since they were Sonic & Sega Genesis fans. I thought it was great. Fast forward to this spring, and I finally asked a star of that game, Dawn Bennett, about her own journey and for advice. She was nice enough to give me some words of encouragement and the confidence to at least try it for myself this past spring.
Didn't take me long to find and join this board. I know I have a long, long way to go, but that's why I'm here. To start, it's been all about working on my voice, building confidence, and having fun. Over the last month, I've done just that!

I'm a diehard anime fanboy and gamer, and I would like nothing more than to contribute to the industry that I so adore. To that end, I purchased a Neumann TLM 102 mic along with everything else required to make a basic home studio in hopes of getting the experience required before I could join the professional industry. Actually, I first attempted to voice act before I even bought the Neumann, but I'll save the details for that some other day.

I was drunk, blacked out, and woke up in a studio booth.
For real, I think this was destiny to me as I was growing up, wanting to be multiple things, and never occurred to me to try acting. I sort of wish I found this sooner, but I'm glad I never found it later in life. To me, it's being involved in so many iconic stories that mean so much to people, to influence others in ways, to make them feel.....but if you want a more boring version, Metal Gear Solid was the main reason I started doing this, was doing impressions many years ago, and I realised how much I wanted to evolve, and I have been grateful for the opportunities I got ever since.

I want to leave my existence somewhere. It happened when my favourite singer passed away, I listened to his song everyday and I thought it is awesome how you can leave something behind for others to keep memories of yourself. Pessimist talks aside, I am a huge otaku and people getting into voiceover on youtube really gets to me and I personally loves Yuichi Nakamura, he is my role model!!! I started to get interested in voice acting when I am 15 but my country just doesn't have a huge industry on this. My parents was so against it with me going to Japan and take voice acting class so I have no class but self-taught through videos in youtube... I am 23 now and it's just sad with 8 years gone by with me not achieving anything yet T.T I found this community thanks to a youtuber named kyotosomo. Had been watching his voiceovers videos and sorta subscribed to his channel and read his bio and boom here I am I hope to have a great time here with everyone, and thank you so much for the creator of the page to make my dream a little bit closer to reality :3

Truth be told, it just came to me when I was in college. I had always liked cartoons, dubbed anime, and video games, but I had no goal in life up until I had to choose my Major way back in late-2006. The thought to be a voice actor just sorta... popped into my head at that moment (and was promptly exploited by my college to get me into their overhyped Communication Studies program which has since destroyed my chances of finding full time work).
Thing is though, I didn't really do anything when I should've back then and I kinda thought the dream dead for a long time after college. It was only back last March, through playing a new game that had just come out and then later coming into contact with a voice actor in said game on social media, that I was truly inspired to pick myself up and seriously pursue it.
A little under a year since that epiphany and I've finally been cast in something. It's a good start. I hope to build momentum this year and improve on my abilities.

All my life, I had a habit of acting out things I'd seen and heard on TV, movies, video games, etc., and for most of my life, my mother treated it as a bad habit. She tried to make me stop, and to that end, I tried pursuing computer science in high school, but to no avail. After a series of unfortunate events that led to my getting transferred to a new college, I found some casting calls on YouTube and decided to give it a shot. I figured that if I couldn't break my lifelong bad habit, I might as well turn it into something good. I didn't even know what voice acting was until then, but pretty soon, I fell in love with the line of work, but I never considered it a serious career path until about a year and a half after I graduated.
I've still got a long way to go before I can consider myself a full-fledged professional, but here I am, taking whatever steps I can to move forward on that dream. Of course, as Master Yi will sometimes say in-game, "A true master is an eternal student."

When I was a kid, my siblings and I had a lot of idle time, and a tv in our room. On Demand has just been introduced, and they had a channel with all anime. After we got bored enough, we would turn the television down and start doing our own voices for the characters with the subtitles on. We would try to stay with the lip flaps. We ended up 're-dubbing' the entirety of Fruits Basket this way! I would also read my manga out loud. I would pick voices for each of the characters, find a quiet corner of my room, and read entire manga out loud. The actual voice over part came when I watched the behind the scenes featurettes for the Fullmetal Alchemist DVDs. I realized that it was people acting behind the animated characters, and it made me think of all of the things I'd been doing. I decided 'whoa! that's what I want to do!'. Since then, I dressed in my pajamas holding a microphone and wearing a headset for Career Day (way back in middle school), I wrote multiple essays and projects about being a voice actor for high school, and every time an opportunity came up at a convention to do any voice acting at panels, I'd jump at the chance and have been able to work with awesome voice actors because of it. I've grown a lot since then, and I'm really happy that anime struck such a need to act in me that it's become my passion. I look forward to the future!
