I recently got cast on an indie game production and the project leader asked me what would be my rate for the work. The problem is I've never been on a paid project before so I'm not sure what to answer to that. They provided me the approximate amount of lines (55) and words (300) the character has and a deadline (a week from now), no knowledge of the budget. Should I charge by line/word count and how much per line/word would be a realistic amount? Or is there some other criteria I should use instead?
EDIT: Well... as soon as I published this thread I got an answer from the project leader. So instead of asking I'm now giving advice to anyone in the same situation and I guess 0,20$/word would be a rather standard amount. Be free of course to add your own viewpoint on the matter.

I personally charge $1 per line on indie games (NOT commercial/in-studio projects, I'm talking crowdfunding kinda stuff). I know a "line" can vary greatly in length---anything from a single effort noise to a short paragraph---but it tends to even out and is also easier than counting each word.
