Hi all!
As you can probably see, our board is growing quickly and we do not have enough staff to keep up. One of our most active moderators unfortunately resigned as well, so we are in dire need of new staff for the board.
As a moderator, your main duties would be to check the new threads on the audition boards when possible to ensure they comply with the rules (posted in the correct section, including a deadline and email address, etc.) You would also have access to moderate the general areas of the board, although there tend to be less issues on those areas aside from the occasional spambot. If you turn out to be a great fit, you may be promoted to admin as well.
If you're curious how active you have to be, please note that there is a lot of flexibility on this because we are aware that everyone has lives and more pressing commitments. The VAC is a labor of love for everyone involved and many times real life and paid work has to take priority, and that's okay! I myself am having a lot of issues being super active these days due to my schedule and part of the reason having a bigger team will be helpful is that it means a higher chance of someone being around to help out at a given time.
Moderators should be firm when necessary to enforce rules, but at the same time compassionate. Unnecessary power tripping or attitudes create a hostile environment, whereas the VAC should be seen as an environment that is welcoming but at the same time holds people to a certain standard. In a sense, admins and moderators are the "face" of the VAC and representatives of our community.
Please remember that even if you are not interested in applying as a moderator, you can always use the "report post" feature to alert the team of issues that need attention.
If you are interested in applying, please fill out the following application and send it as a PM to me (LadyStardust) with the subject "Moderator Application" by 11 pm PST on May 1. Your answers may be shared with other members of the team to determine if you'd be a good fit. Please note that if you are selected and decide you're not happy doing it, you are still free to resign at any time if you choose.
1. Why do you want to be a moderator for the VAC?
2. What qualities and/or skills do you possess that would make you a good moderator?
3. Do you have any experience in moderating other forums or services? Alternatively, have you ever held a leadership position before? If so, please describe.
4. What is a *realistic* estimate of how often you think you'd check the boards (again, not being able to be super active won't necessarily disqualify you - this is for the purpose of estimating how many new moderators we will need):
5. About how long have you been a member of any sort of online voice acting forums? (This includes the old VAC, the VAA, CastingCall, etc.)
6. Imagine someone posts an audition thread asking for actors first-come first-serve, with only their Skype name as a contact info. How would you handle this situation?
7. Imagine that someone has posted off-topic advertisements for their work in two different places on the board. How would you handle this situation?
8. What is your #1 suggestion for how to improve the community going forward?
Make sure you send your application as a PM, not as a post reply to this thread! Thank you and good luck!
